In 1978 I heard an amazing talk by one John Matonis, A California attorney and Libertarian. He taught us two very important “truths” that day 1) That there is no such thing as”separation of powers in the government”. The biggest misconception fed to us as 5th graders was that there is a difference between local, county state and fed. and that the executive, legislative and judicial branches of the government all “check” each others powers. “Government is government” (period) and when it comes to stealing or abusing the citizens rights and liberties, all of the above act in unison, because you see, the citizen is the natural enemy of a government. (like a Lyon to a zebra). and 2) Government is a business.. Plain and simple and the purpose of a business or government is to GROW. But the only way a government can grow is to continually pass laws and regulations and codes and procedural red tape and so on and so on until more and more of its own citizenry can be labeled a criminal. The end result being what some might call a totalitarian police state which of course we are now witnessing. . As more and more people are considered law breakers and hence an “enemy of the state”, there is massive justification to increase the size and scope and powers of the government to PROTECT the GOVERNMENT. Government gets bigger, the citizens liberties shrink in accordance, and eventually like a single cell parasite which feeds on its own life source, the government will implode under its own weight but not without considerable suffering and bloodshed from its citizenry. Mr. Matonis laid out exactly what has been steadily happening over the last 4 decades as it now appears that every single branch of government and every agency of government has turned itself into a zealous para military law.enforcement entity hell bent on justifying their budgets. To justify the expenses and need for more personnel and equipment, more regulations are passed and it takes on a life of its own. Government becomes bigger and bigger, becoming ever more intrusive and losing sight of logic, justice and restraint. These agencies must “stop us criminals from growing our orchids”.. Governments thorough-out history has proven again and again that they eventually drunk on power become evil entities and the US is no exception. With the growth of government comes our slavery. Better get used to it. There are millions of Americans who are willing to sell their soul to be a part of the emerging police state and are down right giddy about having the authority and the privilege of being apart of the law enforcement end of an unjust and tyrannical government.
